Rolling Stone Catches Heat for ‘200 Greatest Singers of All Time’

Rolling Stone Magazine is catching heat after revamping its “Greatest Singers List” from 2008.

The publication even bumped up the list from 100 to 200 people but it was still largely panned on social media.

The editors explained saying, “Before you start scrolling (and commenting), keep in mind that this is the Greatest Singers list, not the Greatest Voices List. Talent is impressive; genius is transcendent. Sure, many of the people here were born with massive pipes, perfect pitch, and boundless range. Others have rougher, stranger, or more delicate instruments. In all cases, what mattered most to us was originality, influence, the depth of an artist’s catalog, and the breadth of their musical legacy.”

Fans say the list ranked many people too low, like Gladys Knight at 101. They also complained about artists who are not really considered vocalists being ranked too high, like Rihanna at 68.

The biggest blunder seems to have been leaving Céline Dion off the list altogether.
Aretha Franklin was number one.
